Reality is that many people can’t afford to provide themselves a nutritious diet in our community. These hungry people are often elderly or disabled and on a fixed income. The food pantry is able to serve them by providing fresh meat and vegetables as well as shelf-stable food in a grocery-like atmosphere 9:30–11:30 a.m. the third Thursday each month.
The food pantry is a ministry with a wide variety of volunteers and donations. Volunteers serve as counselors, personal shoppers, loaders, and food handlers. Companies donate fresh food and vegetables each month and other items are donated by individuals, purchased from Food Bank of the Rockies and various locations.
One of the greatest blessings of the ministry is providing an opportunity for those who depend on the food bank to serve others. For example, Roger had some medical problems and was temporarily unable to work. He came for food for many months, recovered from his medical issues, and now serves others at the pantry. Another client-turned-volunteer is Ed, a disabled vet. He arrives early and passes out numbers to clients to help bring order to our distribution system. Jan and Mike, who once were an integral part of the distribution team, now are recipients due to medical issues, but are are still serving.
We would love for anyone interested in the Pantry to drop by the third Thursday of the month or you can schedule a tour of the pantry by calling Jan 720-638-8149.
We are in need of volunteers to help load boxes of food (2-3 hours the 3rd Thursday of each month). We always have a need for canned fruit, vegetables and cereal as these are staples that we must replenish each month. Currently our volunteers are busy providing distribution of food, we really need some folks who will serve as ambassadors of Christ and just visit and love on those we serve.
